strange diff problem

Hi!

I've got a strange diff problem. dpkg-buildpackage produces a unusable  
(see x48 bug report) 12 KB diff file. When I call diff directly I get the  
correct 1 KB diff file:

   diff -u -r --new-files x48-0.4 x48-0.4.orig

I've also build older versions of x48. dpkg-buildpackage produces a wrong  
diff file with all versions.

Is this a dpkg problem? I'm using dpkg 1.4.0.19 and libc6.
