pppd_2.3.1-2 has a bug which means that it does not set the port speed, so instead the speed stays at the default (normaly 9600).

I should have a fix sorted out soon. In the mean time, if you run anything else on the port (mgetty, diald) that sets the speed, then your problem will be solved.
