Perhaps mention loss of data here too. It's always possible to boot
with a rescue disk, and people who have a bootable CD need not worry
about booting at all.

As far as I know it's not in the kernel code. It's one of those
Killer Bugs From Hell that keeps popping up after it's been fixed, and
it's probably in the C libraries.

elf-x11r6lib used to be provided by xlib6. If you have it, it's safe
to install these with --force-depends, _unless_ they have other
unsatisfied dependencies. Fortunately dpkg reports all unsatisfied
dependencies when it complains.

netbase 3.00-1, and possibly netstd 3.00-1 which depends on it.
They are the first libc6 versions of the network packages.

In the info file for libc, node "NSS Configuration File". The best
way to get there is "info libc" and then select "Name Service Switch"
from the main menu. This info file is part of the libc6-doc package.
