Upgrading the kernel without rebooting?

Hi all,
I was discussing with a friend about our packaging system and this
question came on the table.
I remember that there was some chatting some time ago, but I couldn't
find it on my archives.

Did someone ever upgraded the kernel without rebooting?
I admit I can't imagine how.
