Sure enough! I looked in my ~/.Xdefaults files and found I had a lot
of Motif/OSF cruft left over from long ago. After removing it, BS/DEL
work correctly in netscape. Thanks.
Now, I just need to figure out how to get emacs to work correctly. I
have a lot of left over cruft in ~/.emacs as well. Perhaps that is
screwing things up.
