Allow me to throw out another suggestion (mostly joost's idea..): A PGP
signed database which is 'official'. Ie, it obviously can't pass as the
real, authoritative one if changed, but could still be GPL'ed. This seems
a bit contradictory in some ways, but it would keep me happy, in that
random things wouldn't be done to the database and passed along, and
people would know that it was authentic.
