bug tracking system enhancements
Hi:
If you've ever received bug reports, then you know how much of a
pain it is to get the subsequent mail correspondence logged by the bug
tracking system. The main hurdle is that people who are replying to your
(the developper's) message usually do not cc to #####@bugs.debian.org.
Well, I've thought about it and come up with this plan. How about
setting up a mailing list (just a list of email addresses that is) for each
bug report. It doesn't have to be complicated or anything, just a list of
email addresses that have posted messages to the relevant
#####@bugs.debian.org. The list should expand whenever a new correspondent
enters the conversation. There should also be commands to remove oneself from
the list of course. The developper should always be on that list and should
not be removed, ever :)
One problem is that many developpers are listed with their @debian.org
addresses but use their own addresses when writing emails, which means that
they'll get two copies of all messages sent to #####@bugs.debian.org. This can
be solved by registering those other addresses with the bug tracking system on
a per developper basis (which they can change later on, say when they change
their email addresses).
So what do you think about this? Ian, Would you be able to put in place
something like this? Thanks.
