Debian mailing lists being used to spam people

There was just a post to security@debian.org asking to be taken off
all Debian mailing lists. This is the second time in a week
I have seen the Debian mailing lists used to spam someone.
This is not good publicity.

Perhaps we should set up a check on subscriptions to keep this
from happening (user must respond to a piece of mail sent by the
list software before they are actually subscribed).
