This has never been a problem for me... Since I always keep 5 or 6 kernels
on my system, I give them all names different from zImage and vmlinuz.

For instance, on one machine I have "zStreaker" coz its the bare bones
minimal kernel I can compile for that machine.  My kernel with nfs
support is zNFS.  my "latest" kernel is called zLatest.  Use a naming
scheme like that, and I cant see any problems arising.
