doesn't dpkg --status say?

ps. Is it worth installing a "dpkg-bugstatus" or something that takes
a filename, does dpkg -S on it, then dpkg --status on that, then pulls
out the package: and version: fields, and presents them for mailing?
Or is it in there somewhere and I've missed it?
