I think I now know why the directory name "webspace" grates on me so
much. The word "space" denotes a whole Universe of operation. So I
would take "webspace" to refer to the top-level of the "space" where
all web-related files are stored. However, you are not proposing
/var/webspace/cgi-bin (which would be tolarable to me), but rather
/var/web/webspace which sounds redundant and cacophonous and
misleading (in terms of content) to me. Any of "htdocs" or "html" or
"httpd-data" (the default for the cern-httpd package) would refer to
the actual contents of the directory rather than a "space" for all web
files. "webspace" is a Debian Apache concoction which I think we should
abandon before others notice.
