Re: Reasons for the removal of "editor" virtual package

<lots of stuff about why have editor? deleted>

But if a package depends on editor how does it find the editor?

It uses the EDITOR env variables - in which case it dosn't
need to depend on editor - the user has told it which one to use.

If this env variable is not set how does it find the editor? It
would need to check for the existance of all editors that provide the
editor virtual package - this makes no sense and isn't very pratical.

Therefore: using the editor virtual package isn't much use.

better: have ae as the fallback. It is a tiny package (61k) and very
easy to use. People can remove it but they must then set the EDITOR
variable.

Andy.
