I had a look at the revised manuals and noticed the following small points:
- Policy manual, section 6.2, 4th paragraph still mentions the chiark.chu.cam.ac.uk address for Ian Jackson's machine for uploads. I thought that address changed.
- Programmers manual, section 2: Currently, a Debian archive is an ar archive with special requirements on the members. Should it be mentioned here that that underlying format of a debian archive is ar?
- Section 2.2, 2nd paragraph of postinst,... explanation: Spelling should be `idempotent', not `itempotent'.
- In the same section, 3rd paragraph. Is it possible to add a sentence like `For the same reason, all configuration utilities called have to use unbuffered output or use /dev/tty'. Reason for this request: I had problems repeatedly piping the output of dpkg into tee because of utilities like xf86config or install-mime, which use buffered IO, used in postinst scripts.
- Related to this, should it be mentioned somewhere else in the policy or programmer manuals that packages which provide configuration utilities for use in postinst,... scripts (like mime-support's install-mime) have to ensure that those utilities don't use buffering of stdout? Or is it sufficient to point this out in this section?
Cheers,
Lukas
