New and exciting gcc compilation problem

OK--

I downloaded gcc_2.7.2.1-1.tar.gz; the debianized source for gcc.

	Untarred it.

	cd into it and:

chmod a+x debian.rules
./debian.rules dist

... it goes into an infinite loop on the 'build' target!

Now-- what is really strange is that it works just fine on another Linux
box with the same configuration [as far as I can tell].

Now-- anyone have any ideas why this is happening?

I wish the source archives had dependencies so that I know what versions of
what developer components I need to build a package.
