The DOS format is universally supported across all platforms. If something
must be changed then any operating system can be used to copy/modify
files.

1.3? I am more thinking of an alternate boot-floppies package like
boot-up or so. Should not take too long to put that together if
changes to existing boot procedures are minimized.
I also thought about providing a way to install directly from a dos
harddrive.
Have a package debinst.exe that selfdecompresses a kernel, loadlin and a
root image. A batch fires the stuff up and off you go. Never touch a
floppy.
