Looking for a "lib$termcap.a" for Python 1.3

Hi - 

I have been trying to compile Python 1.3, but it hangs up at the
configure stage, where it says that it can't find -ltermcap or
-ltermlib. In the configure script, it seems to be looking for
a "lib$termcap.a" file. My Debian setup had no termcap file (maybe
I ommitted a package?), but I got one and placed it in the /etc
directory. However, this made no difference. I have seen termcap
files before, but nothing like a termcap.a file.

Does anyone know what the configure script is looking for?
