Bug#3146: 1.1 installation: ae doesn't work

No need to ask the terminal type, that's what $TERM is for.
The problem arises when the terminal doesn't provide the function
keys which ae needs.
I don't plan on doing surgery on ae's internals to enable it to
switch keymaps on the fly or somesuch.
The essential functions are file-write and quit-ask. All the others
are nonessential. How about if I add ^w and ^c keymappings for those,
and add them to the top-of-screen menu, and leave the rest mapped
as they currently are?
I'd rather not squeeze another line onto ae's on-screen menu. I'm
thinking that it's probably a good bet that "F10,^C" would be
generally understood to refer to the function-key-10 or the control-C
keys.
