You have to understand just how deeply this offends Richard. He's
given his life for 12 years to building this GNU project, and we have
the gall to achieve his goal first, and not do it according to his plan.
In his mind, we have stolen GNU. Because of this, I am sure that we will
not be able to reach Richard on a rational level as far as this stuff is
concerned.

No, please keep volunteering. Just ignore Richard. If you just let him
continue to paint himself into a corner the way he is doing now,
eventually nobody will take him seriously any longer.
