Bug#2960: etc/cron.weekly/syslogd is not a conffile as it ought to be

No, i would recommend the maintainer to have the cron script parse
/etc/syslog.conf and do the logfile rotation based upon its contents.
People shouldn't need to change two configfiles when one already holds
all the information.

In addition i would like to point the maintainer to the newsyslog
utility from the Athena project (now incorporated into NetBSD) which
is essentially a more sophisticated version of savelog.
