Bug#2950: /etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd needs to be a conffile
Package: syslogd
Version: 1.3-2
I have edited my /etc/syslog.conf to direct mail logging to a separate
file - mail.log. This is no problem since /etc/syslog.conf is a
conffile. I get asked if I want it overwritten and I say no...
The problem occurs in that I want the mail.log file to be rotated with
the rest. Therefore, I edited /etc/cron.weekly/sysklogd. Simple
enough. But then, I upgraded sysklogd last week and find out this week
that my mail.log was never rotated. Oops, the cron file was
overwritten. Thankfully, I keep all the system files in RCS and just
checked out the latest version. Still, it was frustrating.
