Nothing unusual... I've got the standard X debian setup...
Only add this font path in /etc/X11/XF86Config:
FontPath "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/xtel"
(NB: xtel french minitel emulator font... I'll make the debian package soon...)
...But i don't think it's the problem...

You may prefer read this:
Tkdesk put these lines in my ~/.tkdesk/System (like you!)

And i must change with these lines to start tkdesk

Maybe, this is the problem... I have got correct (no dpkg depends problems!)
but old fonts... And I have got only 3 fonts packages:

ii xfntbase 3.1.2-2 XFree86 3.1.2 base fonts
ii xfntpex 3.1.2-1 XFree86 3.1.2 PEX extension fonts
