Personally, I don't think that's a good idea. I don't really like ae (never
really used it) but it certainly is more user-friendly that vi. I mean,
even quitting vi is challenging if you don't know the editor... You may not
like ae, but at least it tells you how to quit and how to save. So I don't
think newbie users should be dropped into vi by default. Experienced users
have EDITOR set.

You despise ae? Set the EDITOR environment variable accordingly. But (at
the risk of repeating myself) I don't think newbie users should be dropped
into vi without asking for it.
