Perhaps I posted in error. I did a spot check on a few of the files,
but none of the ones in /etc, and found that all the perms were ok.
Then I realized that all of these files, again besides the ones in
/etc, have symbolic links pointint to them, which would have the 777
permission you reported.
The ones in /etc may really be broken, but why don't you recheck the
others?
