Getting configure/make/gcc working on new 1.1 system.

Hi. I just installed 1.1 (from a snapshot taken on Sunday
of ftp.i-connect.net). I must comment that the installation
program is much improved over 0.93. My problem is that I
need to compile stuff right away, but things aren't working
yet. I used dselect to install a fairly complete system on
a virgin drive.

The problems: I can't compile the kernel out of the box.
Also, when trying to recompile my package (color-ls), the
configure script says "checking if cross-compiling: yes".
I don't want to be cross-compiling, or do I? Anyway,
that flag causes the configure script to stall. I don't
have the error messages from the kernel compile handy.

Anyway, can someone give me some general pointers to help
set things up?

Thanks. Syrus.
