mime-support installs a mailcap with almost nothing in it. In
particular, it doesn't even list image/gif --- which causes metamail
to report

This message contains data in an unrecognized format, image/gif,
which is being decoded and written to the file named "/tmp/ca960420.gif".
If you do not want this data, you probably should delete that file.
Wrote file /tmp/ca960420.gif

This worked before the recent upgrade, so I'd guess an older metamail
package got it right...
