Well, I'm thinking that netscape doesn't require external MIME support
to work. It can, of course, display HTML, and make FTP connections.
It also can display and save gif and jpeg files by itself, and it can
sanely allow you to save file formats it does not understand. So,
since Ian's guidelines (this may be an old copy) says the following:
Depends
packages that are required for this package to
provide a significant amount of functionality.
Recommends
packages that would be found with this one in all
but unusual installations.
Suggests
packages that are related to this one and can perhaps
enhance its usefulness, but without which installing
this package is perfectly reasonable.
I would think that netscape should either suggest (my preference) or
recommend external mime support, but not depend on it. In response to
Mark's comments, yes I do realize mime is the underlying structure,
what with text/html and all being required for CGI scripts. But my
point is that a decent amount (html, graphics) of this support that
joe-user needs for web-surfing is already built in.
