Bug#2604: ash: cc: Internal compiler error: program ld got fatal signal 11

When I try to compile ash I get the following message

cc: Internal compiler error: program ld got fatal signal 11

This can be reproduced on a stock Debian 0.93R6 and on a highly
patched Slackware, so I won't think that the compiler is broken.
