mt-st and cpio conflict

Recently my backup scripts stopped working because I upgraded to a new
version of cpio which has a /usr/bin/mt, mt-st also provides an
/usr/bin/mt but it got overwritten with the cpio version.

The mt-st version has nearly a super set of the commands supported by
mt-cpio except for 'asf'. If we could add this to mt-st (dosn't seem
too difficult) mt could be removed from cpio. [mt-st also has extra
commands that are only understood by the scsi driver but the "normal"
commands will still work].

The big problem here is that depending on the order of installing or
upgrading packages you get a different effect. Should dpkg do
something about this or perhaps some script run at the ftp site detect
these types of conflicts (filenames common to two packages which don't
Conflict: fields) ?

Andy.
