from a confused developer
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hi all,
admittedly I'm a marginal developer (one package: diald), and perhaps
I missed something in the reorganization of the ftp sites, but I'm
fairly lost as to what I should do to be able to build elf packages.
In a few days I'm moving telephonically closer to my ISP (now I have
to dial long distance) and I should be able to ftp whatever I need to
upgrade without going broke. Could someone instruct me about the
minimal elf set up I'll need?
A similar question was asked about 3 weeks ago, I think, and I
summarize my understanding of the situation. Please feel free to point
out to me all the silly bits.
To build elf packages I:
+ need dpkg-1.0.16 [where is this?]
+ need dchanges(>=2.0) [not for elf but for new control fields]
+ need ld.so
+ must deinstall libc and replace it with libc4
+ must install libc5
+ must install image (1.3.x ?)
+ must install compile stuff: gcc, libc4-dev, libc5-dev
Right? wrong? comments?
Also, is ftp.debian.org complete? I recall BDale (?) saying it would
take a couple of days to rebuild, but I keep seeing the warning
message about the site being still under construction.
Thanks,
Giuseppe
