I think that fsstnd should be extended to allow for directory stubs
in /usr/local/lib which parallel directories in /usr/lib -- this is
analogous to putting /usr/local/bin in the default PATH.
Agreed, strongly.
I do something similar in the Emacs package by including an empty
directory called /usr/local/lib/emacs/site-lisp. It's in the default
locallisppath; users can drop LISP packages into it and load them
without any changes to the default lisppath.
How is this different from providing an empty /usr/local/bin directory
and including it in the default PATH?
