I grabbed a copy of ae 4.93 and took a quick look. The size
is 40159 bytes and the copyright is GPL-ish. Keymappings are
defined in a startup file of about 2K bytes, expected to be
in the user's home directory. Absence of the startup file is
fatal, and that'd probably need to be changed if we adopted ae.
The "feel" is similar to ee, but with rougher edges. The
two startup files supplied are mode.rc (vi-ish) and
modeless.rc (emacs-ish).
Unless the 40K bytes or so size difference is critical, I'd
lean towards ee instead.
