choosehyphen was renamed to texconfhyphen (int /usr/sbin)
but this change was not reflected in the postinst.
Probably, no new format had been generated. Did you try to run
make-texfmt (in /usr/lib/texmf/ini, should probably als go to
/usr/sbin) to manually generate a new one?
If the problem still persists, could you send me a logfile?
TeX works as expected here. (I missed the error las time because
the LaTeX switches batchmode off somewhere and I never use
plain TeX)
