games BoF notes from DebConf25

We had an unscheduled session as advertised on #debian-games IRC, please
at least read the "Joining the Team" discussion and reply if you have
any objections to that. It was good to meet many other team members at
DebConf who just couldn't attend the BoF.

Who
---

emorrp1: not much recently, but helped get corsix-th in, Mindustry not
in Debian (pending gradle), ideas about luanti (née minetest) mods,
libregaming.org

tchet: got interested thanks to g-d-p, wants to work on standardising
games team packages - has uploaded all to salsa, wiki needs overhauling,
works on utilities adjacent to games e.g. cabextract, plib, more the
infrastructure than the games

boutil: interested in playing games - please join libregaming.org, is
there any list of games wanted in debian? multiple lists in wiki but
prioritise RFP/ITP, vv221 suggests wiki list of just RFP, tchet says udd
custom query, should usertag the current RFP/ITPs

vv221: play.it - packaging commercial only games, trialling maintainer
team in Uploaders of QA team (no-one complained yet), keen to keep
abandoned 90s libs, ceaser3 upstream co-ord review what's missing, has
successfully ressurected upstream only by getting in touch with them,
recommends deprioritising hostile upstreams to avoid warnings "don't use
debian package version"

Huitsi: playing games (Mindustry), developer of games, was trying to
package libstrangle but stopped playing the game that used it

Problems
--------

blockers:
* Mindustry - gradle
* vv221 - time!
* runescape - dead? rm? but emorrp1 played recently
* games written for mono-runtime - in progress vv221 (threatening
removal of unneeded parts was successful in getting co-maintainers)

RFH: in 1 month 68 gcc-15 bugs will be RC for forky, not expecting
upstream help, vv221 might triage and at least forward to alive
upstreams

Joining the Team
----------------

emorrp1: had multiple conversations over DebConf with individual
maintainers (e.g. tachi) of small games that just keep working - Q: how
do I join the games team, should I add my personal package to team
maintenance? A: If you say you're in the games team, you're in - please
add your game for discoverability
tchet: there are no Team rules, we should be explicit on the wiki
bare debian in git? but tag2upload?

AOB
---

debian/watch: emorrp1 enjoys, tchet suggests just using repology (in the
wider debian package), there is pending v5 that should mean less
busywork when upstreams change url structure

vv221: has plans, but don't require co-ordination
tchet: personal release goal, but doesn't want to ask for help; dream
for g-d-p/play.it kde discover backend to synthesise fictional installs
- appstream? wants to talk to smcv
smells list, copyright review - lrc, licenserecon
we need testers - people to play the games
