I'm not sure where the discussion is regarding this specific artwork,
but as to Sara's inclusion at all, here's some older discussion:

http://forum.freegamedev.net/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4627

"Supertuxkart needs a female character, so I have started a new kart (my
first kart and my first character) that will hopefully replace the old
mozilla. It will feature "princess" Sara the open game art's mascot."

fwiw, of the links in that thread to art that still work (many are dead
now), I didn't see any sexualized depictions of Sara. I think upstream
could've done better with the poster art.

I would be interested in seeing the Sara artwork from actual gameplay
for comparison/contrast with the poster art.
