I remember seeing pages regarding this and have managed to find them
again.

It looks like they are aware - see
http://ufoai.org/wiki/License
although they do use GFDL.

In fact, it looks like (some of) the developers use Debian as their
standard for licenses (quoting http://ufoai.org/wiki/License_Issues )
