Third-party art and documentation.
I was looking at the thread of Megaglest's inclusion in Debian message
for something else. While going through the messages came across
this and more precisely this part :-
"I guess you don't have the URLs any more but it would be nice for
review purposes if megaglest-data docs/AUTHORS.data.txt contained full
URLs to the pages where each data file not created by direct MG
contributors was downloaded from.
Some of the URLs in docs/AUTHORS.data.txt are semi-broken, for example
http://mattiaswestlund.jamendo.net/ redirects to the generic blog
page." - Paul Wise
Now I installed the package just to see how this AUTHORS.data.txt is
in Debian but was unable to find it. Both the megaglest package and
the megaglest-data package does not seem to have this file at least
not in the /usr/share/doc/ sections :-
: /usr/share/doc/megaglest-data$ ls
changelog.Debian.gz changelog.gz copyright README.txt.gz
changelog.Debian.gz changelog.gz copyright README.Debian TODO.Debian
Its only after grepping the megaglest-data package that I was able to
see that the AUTHORS.data.txt was kept in some other location :-
~$ dpkg -L megaglest-data | grep AUTHORS
My question is/was why wasn't this AUTHORS.data.txt kept in
/usr/share/doc where it would be seen by more people as well.
Another query as pointed out by you, the URL's in the file are sparse.
Is there any package in the Debian Repo (preferably games) which have
used third-party art and which you think is a role model which
upstreams could follow ?
Looking forward to hearing from you as well as the broad community who
maintain Debian-games. You guys do terrific work.
