Where on the Supertux Wiki is the discussion you mention in your
changelog? I could not find it. grumbel is not aware of any issues, but
promised to look into it as soon as he knows what exactly the issue is.

In related news, I now know what the issue with my installation was. I
called supertux from CLI only, thus bypassing the workaround in the
.desktop files. Thus, supertux failed.
I filed a bug report to handle the lack of data gracefully and grumbel
already agreed to do this so this particular problem should not occur
any more no matter when the issues with sfx & music is fixed.
