Finally! I think the first time *I* participated in that kind of
discussion was in 2005 and people were recalling having that conversation
at least twice before...

I guess so. Also this would provide *some* backward compatibility with etch.

Does dpkg ignore an unknown field? I am thinking how will this affect
backporting by directly compiling a sid source package on etch.
