Screenshots on packages.d.o
---------------------------

You may have noticed that packages.d.o now includes screenshots[1]
with a link to a the Debian screenshots site[2]. Where a screenshot
isn't available a "No screenshot available" image invites users
to submit screenshots. Any one can easily contribute[3] and after
approval your screenshots will be available on the web[4] and on
 packages.d.o[5], synaptic[6], aptitude-gtk[7], software-center[8] and,
via games-thumbnails[9], goplay[10]. The Debian screenshots site has
been running for almost 2 years[11] and has accumulated over 2200
screenshots for 1700 packages[12] but still lacks screenshots for
many packages[13] so why not upload screenshots today? The screenshot
meta-data is available via JSON (1[14], 2[15]) and UDD[16]. If you
would like to work on debshots[17], the software behind the Debian
screenshots site, please check out the git repository and send Christoph
Haas some patches. There are improvements to be made[17], especially
 around integration with packages.d.o.

BTS version tracking explained
------------------------------

There still seems to be a lot of confusion on how the version tracking in
the BTS works. I wrote a lengthy blog entry[19] which explains why some
bugs won't get archived even though they got closed a while ago already.

Latest features of dpkg-dev
---------------------------

Raphaël Hertzog has been blogging about the latest features of
dpkg-dev[20]. He also gave a talk at the recent MiniDebConf in Paris,
France (slides at [21]). His blog posts and talk covered several areas,
including the new source package formats, source package build options,
the maintainer scripts helper, vendor differentiation support (patches,
build rules), symbols files for libraries, build flag customisation and
 more.

Searching for bugs using Ultimate Debian Database
-------------------------------------------------

There's a new web interface[22] for the Ultimate Debian Database that
provides a multi-criteria search engine for bugs (including RC bugs).

Re-evaluate the state of backported packages
--------------------------------------------

I've sent out a call for re-evaluating the state of backported
packages[23]. If the reason to stick behind the squeeze version for a
backport isn't valid anymore it might be a good idea to get the packages
in sync again to make potential security and point release updates
 easier.
