At least one guy appears to have found quite different results:
http://www.math.purdue.edu/~lucier/runtimes.html
Summary: in his 45 (mostly low-level) there are a few that are some 10%
slower on 64 bit, while the others are typically an order of magnitude
faster. Not sure if he was using gcc on Solaris or Linux, though.
In theory, I see no reason why any real world application should be
significantly faster on Sparc64 when compiled with 64 bits unless it
is using uint64_t variables.
