You don't have to set up a webdav server unless you want remote
access. That may or may not mean you need one.
I have played with subversion for a couple of hours, and I have to say
that, in my perhaps myopic view, it kicks CVS' ass around the block.
Even with the somewhat minimalist docs that exist now, I was able to
figure out how to maintain upstream branches, merge updates to them
them into local mods, etc.---and the scary thing is that it's *easy*.
Too easy, almost. I spent quite some time just looking for the hard
part because CVS has trained me to know that things just couldn't be
that simple.
Now a healthy skepticism is probably justified---even the developers
regard it as pre-alpha. But they've been self-hosting for a good
while, and development is proceeding apace, and I think this project
is going to fulfill its ambitions quite handily.
