Well, I think that it's about time to change the rationale behind
apt-get, then.  If it hadn't been for apt-get, I'd most probably still
be running mainly Red Hat and LinuxPPC.  (Now that I know Debian a
bit, I wouldn't want to go back, even if it meant doing wget+dpkg.)

Before, I tried going Debian several times, but dselect made be
quickly back out again.  Just fyi.
