The alternative is to not add Debian menu entries at all. Most
desktops and window managers support the cross-distribution
FreeDesktop menu standards but there are some that don't. In the long
term all of them should support the FreeDesktop menu and then the
Debian menu can be dropped. In addition with GNOME 3 most users will
have the Debian menu disabled since it means duplicate icons in the
menu since GNOME 3 switched from a hierarchical menu to a flat
search-able and tagged menu.
