Re: corporate debian desktop

anouther idea maybe to build a completly new installer, thats easier for
the newbie to use. I'm not saying copy Redhat's anaconda, but I've found
a graphical installer to be easier for non-guru's. Like I said, only an
idea.

debian installer is great ... graphical installer is on the way.

Also it has been introduced to me by many newbies that linux offers too
much choice. For example, what office set to use, Abiword, Oppenoffice,
KOffice? All are good solutions, but newbies are often overwhelmed by
the extreem freedom of choice.
I am not targeting for neewbies, but for a hole diferent propose.

PAM-pgsql was a good choice, but PAM-MySQL, or LDAP are also very good
methods. Here I would suggest leaving the choice to the admin ( they
hate it when people start taking over the choices for them ).
i said that the good thing was to have all the choice. Ofcourse some debian folks could contribute for one of them.
I like pam-pgsql ... i would make pam-pgsql support.

I thing the first things to do would be too look at exactly what
applications we need. Put the selected programms in a "standard
install", and leave alternatives in other repos.
I have a list of application made (or in building process). I will show it.

Since I've been considering working on a Distrobution for some time now,
I'd be more then happy to assist you in planning, programming, and
assembling. Just to warn you before hand though, I have absolutly no
experience in packaging, or setting up corperate linux systems. But I
have been using linux exclusively for over 2 years, and I am certified
in programming linux apps in C++.

There are already too many distributions. The work should be more concentrated, human resources are valuable. Instead of starting a new distribution, submit opinions and code to the packages or application that miss some features that you like.

That's what i am trying to do.
