to the other", maybe even explaining that "they were designed out of
different needs and meet different criteria".

I intended to cover that in the first paragraph; my point here was that there would need to be some compelling reason to change our /usr/bin/rename implementation now (such as the util-linux one being much better). I'll try and draft it better.
