That (performance is good with qmail) is untrue for a long time. In fact
it was and is slower than others.
Im not a listmaster and havent been one back then, but from what I
remember from IRC and discussion, at the time Debian switched away from
qmail, the new system, postfix, was an order of magnitude faster than qmail.

"exim more configurable, but unable to do the volume that lists did at
that time, on that hardware. And postfix was even way faster".
And if one thinks back, that was a (now) stone-age postfix...
