FAI does not use the debian-installer at all. It's using debootstrap
but also creates a base.tar.xz so you do not need to call debootstrap
every time which saves a lot of time.

For non Debian based distributions, we create the base files using
rine http://collab-maint.alioth.debian.org/rinse/
