After checking the openvpn logs in /var/log/openvpn.log in the Salsa CI/CD container I found the following error:

ERROR: Cannot open TUN/TAP dev /dev/net/tun: Operation not permitted (errno=1)

Is this error also there in logs of a passing test? If so, that may be a red herring.

The error is not there in my local setup with schroot. Instead I've got this line:

TUN/TAP device tun0 opened

I tried to add the "isolation-container" tag but it still fails, and I suspected that maybe the "isolation-machine" tag was needed, but then the test is skipped.

Indeed, we don't have backends that provide machine isolation, we exclusively have lxc backends.

Then, my question is if something has changed in debci and/or Salsa so now the test fails. I would also appreciate some tips on solving the bug.

Changed since when? And on which architecture? After the bullseye release, we upgraded all but one hosts to bullseye. The last remaining host (ci-worker13) was upgraded to bullseye some weeks ago by moving to a system with slightly different specs. We also had to replace our armhf host. For amd64, not all hosts have the same specs (ci-worker13 is much more powerful).

In debci I'm not sure, but the tests passed fine in the previous release cycle 2 years ago. The first report of a failed test was December 2021.

In Salsa, the test passed on January but it failed last week, without making any changes neither to the source code or the test.

Thanks,
Aniol
