【新的网路安装磁片】 Matt Kraai [3]说他成功地使用自制的 debian-installer
网路安装[4]磁片安装 sarge（testing）。Matt 指出磁片中使用了特制的
ethdetect、netcfg-dhcp 及 netcfg-static 套件，并使用『edit sources list by
hand』选项来避开 [5]base-config 的
bug。他希望大家可以试试这个安装[6]磁片并将遇到的 bug 回报给他。

【Debian-Install 专用的 Bug 网页】 Matt Kraai [7]询问 debian installer
是否有像『[8]base system bugs page』一样的网页，列出所有的 bug。Colin
Watson 很快地[9]制作了一个这样的网页，列出 debian-installer 相关套件的
bug。Petter Reinholdtsen
则较想[10]知道安装程式开发小组负责的软体的现况，并且指出在[11]这个网页可以
取得这些资讯。

【x86-64 平台的 Cross Compiler】 Arnd Bergmann 制作了一组 [12]cross
compiler 套件，用来编译在 AMD [13]x86-64
平台上执行的程式。他和[14]几位朋友利用 [15]Bochs 硬体模拟器，开始进行把
Debian 移植到 x86-64 上的先期工作。

【Debian 计画领导者的选举】 Manoj Srivastava [16]提醒大家 Debian
计画领导者的选举即将开始。本年度的提名时间从今天（2003/01/24）开始，于
2003/02/14 0:0:0 UTC 时结束。进行选举的时间则是从 2003/03/07 0:0:0 UTC 到
2003/03/28 0:0:0 UTC。参选者必须非常熟悉组织事务。Manoj
打算在提名结束后到竞选活动开始前，将各候选人的政见汇整到公开的网页上。

【来自 PTS 的消息】 Rapha□ Hertzog 向大家[17]回报套件追踪系统（Package
Tracking System，PTS）的近况。他和 [18]Debian 套件描述翻译计划（Debian
Description Translation Project，DDTP）的负责人 Michael Bramer
合力将这两个系统结合起来。新的套件网页上会有该套件所有翻译成果的连结。若您
有兴趣参与翻译工作，利用这些连结可以让您很方便地取得现有的翻译成果。

【Debian-Edu 子计画徵求新的领导者】 Rapha□ Hertzog [19]说 Debian-Edu
子计画已经处于暂停的状态。他认为会造成这种情况都是他的责任，因为他实在没有
更多的时间可以花在这个计画上。因此，他希望能有自愿者出来接手并领导这个子计
划。附带一提，以自由教育软体为主题的 [20]TUX&GNU@school 月刊本期有一则关于

【对 Debian 的关注】 在 DesktopLinux.com 一篇和 Debian 计画领导人 Bdale
Garbee 的[21]访谈中，Bdale 提到他对 Debian
能在这一年中看到基于它开发的商业产品上市这件事的感想。他认为最近各界对
Debian 的高度兴趣是来自 Debian 全然非商业的天性，以及社群的力量。在主要的
GNU/Linux 套件发行者中，Debian 是最接近于实现那些让 GNU/Linux
如此与众不同的理想与方法的一个。

中有许多不能使用的套件。他使用 unstable
几年来大致上没有碰到什么问题。不过，我们现在面对的是一个过渡时期，除了表现

【Sarge 网路安装光碟官方版的映像档】 Santiago Garcia Mantinan [23]说 i386
平台的
testing（sarge）网路安装光碟映像档将每周更新。[24]映像档有两个：[25]较小的
（41MB）须要网路连线才能安装，[26]较大的（83MB）则已经包括了安装基本系统所
需的文件档案。这些映像档将被用来测试新的安装程序。

【DDP 准则涵盖的范围】 Adam DiCarlo [27]认为现在大家在[28]讨论的
[29]Debian 文件计画（Debian Documentation
Project，DDP）准则涵盖的范围太过广泛及模糊，让它不可能被大家依循。举例来说
，准则中认定 Debian 手册是『任何针对 Debian
使用者的需求所撰写的文件』。Adam
认为这样的定义太过于概略，而这一类的问题可能会让 DDP 准则无法推行。他建议
DDP 先把目标放在它管理的 Debian 文件上。

【Debian GNU/Linux 是『最省钱的选择』】 瑞典的电脑杂志 [30]Mikrodatorn 在
1/2003 一期中对不同的 GNU/Linux 发行套件在伺服器方面的应用做了一番比较。
Debian 击败了 Mandrake、Red Hat、Slackware 及 Suse，被评选为『[31]最省钱
的选择』。让该杂志作出如此决定的理由是『Debian 和 Suse 是一样好的选择，虽然
前者管理起来稍微复杂些，但是它的价格非常地吸引人。您可以免费下载或是用 279
瑞典克朗（30 欧元）买到 Debian』。

【来自 LWCE 的报导】 上周 Debian 参与了在纽约举行的 [32]Linuxworld
Conference & Expo（LWCE）。根据 [33]LinuxToday 的报导，这次的 Linuxworlds

【游戏的开放原始码与作弊】 Joachim Breitner [34]说游戏能启发孩子对电脑的兴趣
及能力。而 Debian 需要这些新血的加入。不过，如果 Debian 因为那些受欢迎的游戏
（如网路游戏）是封闭原始码的软体而无法提供它们，会让许多青少年使用商业软体而

【对 Pentium Pro 做最佳化？】 Adam Majer [36]告诉大家他用 pbuilder 再次对
sid 进行[37]编译。这次在编译时，他将把所有的套件对 Pentium Pro
做最佳化。这些套件可以用来测试在编译时做这些最佳化，对执行速度能有多大的助
益。不过，Andrew Suffield [38]指出 GCC 对 i386
子架构（subarch）的支援大体上来说不怎么好，而且过去有几次甚至是有错误的。

【对APT 钉锁功能的迷思】 有些人似乎认为 APT 的钉锁功能（APT
pinning）是解决 stable 中套件过旧的万灵丹，Adrian Bunk
向大家[39]说明这个想法是错误的。将 stable 和 unstable
的套件混合使用并不是件好事，因为大部份 unstable
的套件在安装时都会要求你同时安装新的 libc6，有的套件甚至需要新的 Perl 和
Python。这些附带著安装的又会再要求你安装其它 unstable
中的套件，最后可能会让你的系统有问题或是让安全性的问题无法得到适当的修正。

【Debian 中的非法套件？】 经过漫长的[40]讨论后，一位 MPlayer
的核心开发者[41]列出他认为被非法包含在 Debian 中的文件档案。这些档案都在
