【Debian 上的 Mono？】 最新一期的 Mono 周报[5]（Mono Weekly News）报导
Alp Toke 发表了第一个基于 Mono 的媒体放程式 Platano[6]。Mono[7] 是 .NET
架构[8]（framework）的自由软体版本。Alp 同时制作了 GNOME# 相关套件包放在
套件档案库[9]中，让使用 sid 和 woody 的朋友能用 apt-get 很方便地安装这些套件。

【GFDD 中的 Debian 文件】 Gaetano Paolone 发出公告[10]说 GNUtemberg! Free
Documentation Database[11]（GFDD）已经上线并稳定地运作中。GFDD 是一个供自由
文件使用的资料库，并且提供如索引、翻译管理、自由文件书籍发行资讯、文件评等
、统计及搜寻等功能。现在资料库中共有 18 篇英文及 4 篇义大利文的 Debian 相关
文件。

【Hurd 上的 SSH】 Philip Charles 表示[12] Hurd 没有提供 /dev/urandom，但是
ssh 要利用它输出的乱数来产生金钥。正因为如此，虽然在最新的 Hurd 光碟[13]
中有 ssh 套件，但预设是不安装它的。Simon Law 指出[14]可以利用乱数产生器[15]
（random translator）来模拟这个乱数装置。

【Colin Walters 谈桌面环境应用】 DesktopLinux.com[18] 刊载了一篇 Colin
Walters 的访问[19]。Colin 在十月的时候创立了 Debian on the Desktop[20]

【Debian 在桌面环境的占有率】 DWN 这一阵子都用这个标题持续报导这个正在
进行的『在桌面环境上，使用者较喜爱哪一套 GNU/Linux』统计[21]的现况。我
们在此很高兴地宣布，Debian 此刻以 22 % 的得票率微微超过 Mandrake
（21.7 %）暂居第一。从十一月这项调查开始后，一共收到了超过 2700 份选票
，以及超过 8900 篇的回应文章。

【IEEE 的 Debian GNU/Linux 介绍课程】Institute of Electrical and
Electronic Engineers[22]（IEEE）圣地牙哥分部的顾问网（Consultants
Network）公告他们将举办一场长度为一个晚上的 Debian GNU/Linux 简介[23]。
本课程的目的是要让参加者了解安装程序及简单的系统管理。课程将于一月十三
日在圣地牙哥的时时乐（Sizzler）举行，主讲人是有系统管理员资格的 IEEE
及圣地牙哥顾问网资深会员 Alex Perry。

【制作小容量光碟映像档】 Santiago Garcia Mantinan 说[24]他修改了
debian-cd 让它可以产生较小的映像档。这个修改过的 debian-cd 可以产生只有
debian-installer 和相关文件的映像档（45MB），或是再加上最小安装所需要的
档案（83MB）。Santiago 不知道该让这两个中的哪一个成为官方提供的映像档之
一。Tollef Fog Heen 认为[25]可以同时提供这两者，但是 Jason Andrade 指出[26]
太多不同的光碟映像档不但增加映射站台的负担，也会造成初学者的混淆。

【网路安装】 Cassandra Lynette Brockett 说[27]她打算修改 woody 中的一个
boot.bin，让 Debian 网路安装的过程可以完全不需要使用磁片和光碟片。她已经
成功地在 i386 平台上实作[28]出来，并且正在撰写相关的文件。不过，因为通信
论坛上的回应很少，她怀疑[29]是不是大家对这没什么兴趣。

【搜寻引擎再度上线】 Craig Small 宣布[32] Debian 网页搜寻引擎[33]回复了。
它虽然支援双字元（dual byte）文字，不过支援的程度不是很完整。此外，还需要
各种语言的翻译人员配合确认关于搜寻引擎的翻译是否已经更新。尽管如此，Craig
认为有一个还算不错搜寻引擎可用，总比完全没有这个功能来得好。

【函式库的版本】 Rob Browning 问[34]如果一个函式库须要连结（link）另一函式
库，当后者有新的版本，重新编译过的前者名称（soname）中的版本该如何处理？如
果增加前者的版本编号，可能会造成它和其它发行者的函式库不相容。但是如果沿用
原来的版本号码，会让使用它的套件无法使用，而且无法重新编译。Junichi Uekawa
回应说明[35]他处理版本号码的方式[36]，并指出[37]除非 unstable 中所有使用到
这个函式库的套件都同步更新，不然造成 unstable 的部份套件无法使用是无法避免
的。后来，Rob 提出了他建议的方式[38]。

【在 GNOME 面板上监看 Debian】 Daniel Burrows 发表[39]了 apt-watch 的预览
版本，这是一个 GNOME 2 的 panal applet，用来检查是否有套件更新。他将会有
一阵子没办法花太多时间在发展这个程式上，不过他列出了未完成的部份。Emile
van Bergen 认为[40]在有更新时不应该让图示闪动，以免造成使用者□心理压力急
著更新系统而忽略了其它重要的事。不过，在使用 stable 的系统上，这倒是个不错
的方式[41]来提醒使用者有安全性方面的更新。

【预设桌布】 Stefan Schwandter 询问[42]有没有能在各种桌面环境（desktop
environment）及视窗管理程式（window-manager）通用的设定预设桌布方式。Colin
Walters 回应[43]说在若是使用 GNOME 环境下至少要安装 GNOME 2.2 版以上，而他
正试著把设定各种环境预设桌布的功能整合到 desktop-base 套件中。
